AppsAnywhere - Patching or Upgrading an App already published to the Portal

Overview

This document describes how to patch an appset in Cloudpaging Studio or Upgrade an app to a new version, and the steps required to deploy the patched/upgraded version of the app to both new and existing users (via AppsAnywhere).

Patching

Here is a guide on Patching Cloudpaged applications: https://support.software2.com/hc/en-us/articles/360010164253-Patching-Cloudpaged-Applications

This guide goes through the whole process of capturing a patch in Cloudpaging Studio and deploying that patch to your users through AppsAnywhere.

Upgrading

The difference between a patch and an upgrade is:

NOTE: A patch is a minor update to an app that you can capture, such as moving from a version 1.1 to 1.2

NOTE:: An upgrade is a major update, such as moving from a version 1 to version 2. In this case.  For an UPGRADE repackage the application as a new appset with a new AppID. Once that is done, you can follow the same steps in the guide above with the following exceptions

  • Open AppsAnywhere and Return to Admin.
  • Under Application click Manage Applications
  • Search for the application offering you want to upgrade.
  • Click Edit (on the right hand side)
  • Select the Delivery Methods tab, and click Add Delivery Method to create a new delivery method for your Upgraded application. :
  • Click Edit next to the app that you want to Upgrade
  • Select the Cloudpaging delivery method.
  • Click Add
  • Point to your new appset (.stp file) in the 'Application Name' field (Configure as needed)
  • Once done you will need to move the new version higher in the priority list.  Move the new delivery method above the old delivery method to give it a higher priority
    • Click and drag the two rows of vertical dots to the left of the delivery methods to change it's priority.
  • Click Save Order

Completing the Upgrade

  • Still in AppsAnywhere | Return to Admin.
  • Select Cloudpaging | Manage Upgrades
  • Click Add
  • Select the Application you have upgraded and set the Type to upgrade.
  • Under From Delivery Method select the original Delivery Method.
  • Under To Delivery Method select the new Delivery Method (for the upgraded version).
  • Ensure that Is Mandatory is selected
  • Click Save to apply the upgrade.

User Experience

  • The next time the user launches the original app they will be prompted to upgrade.
