AppsAnywhere - My Antivirus program is blocking programs running from AppsAnywhere

Overview

Some programs, when run from https://appsanywhere.saultcollege.ca, get blocked by Security Software (AV)) companies.  These files are created at Sault College or in cooperation with Software2 the vendor for AppsAnywhere.  Because these files are assembled in house the AV companies have no baseline to determine if they are a threat.  Allowing software run from AppsAnywhere is safe but be cautious of other programs you may download from the Internet..

The same issue could happen when running some of these programs in a Sault College lab or staff computer so the College's IT department has pro-activelly whitelisted  certain files so your experience at the college will be smooth, however, at home you will need to complete this task on your own.

Below you will find instructions on products that we have gathered information one to help you out in your home environment.

PC Matic Super Shield

When trying to run Adobe or AutoDesk products you receive this message: Super Shield stopped C:\ ..."

To allow these programs to run

Click on the green shield icon in the lower right corner of the Windows desktop screen by the time display

Mouse over Protection Level

NOTE: Make sure Super Shield Protection is checked

Mouse over Block Notification Method

Click Prompt for Override (Advanced).

The SuperShield icon should be in your system tray but it may be hidden by default. To unhide the SuperShield icon, click on the small triangle to the left of the Windows time (clock) in taskbar near lower right corner of the screen. Look for the green SuperShield icon and drag it to the Taskbar, Once this is completed, SuperShield should always be displayed down the by clock.

We recommend that you do not use the Industry Standard level of protection as that may allow your computer to still be infected by malware or viruses. Only SuperShield Protection will give your computer the best protection possible.

Open the program in question again, and when the SuperShield blocking screen appears, click the red "Always Allow" button to add the programs to your local white list.

NOTE: for other programs, make sure that these are legitimate programs.  You can also add them to the local black list by clicking on the green "Always Block" button .

Please note that Advanced Mode is only recommended for the brief period of time to whitelist an item. Please return Super Shield back to it's default "Super Shield Protection" level once the white listing has been completed.
