Student use of Solidworks for Academic purposes

Overview

Solidworks is available for students through AppsAnywhere or by installing the take-home version.

AppsAnywhere
This platform allows you to access Solidworks without having to install it manually on your personal computer. You simply log into AppsAnywhere and search for Solidworks to use the version you need.

Take-Home Version
On the other hand, the take-home student version of Solidworks is a mostly standard seat of Solidworks. You can open the files in a regular seat, with the only caveat being that it will tell you that the file was created in the student edition and is for academic use only. It also puts a little graduation cap next to the part name in the left tree. The student edition includes the full suite of addons, including stuff like simulations and CAM.

Using Solidworks on AppsAnywhere provides flexibility as you don’t need to install it on your personal computer but is limited to on campus or via a VPN connection, while the take-home student version provides offline access.

How to Install SolidWorks Academic on a Personal Computer

  1. Obtain the License Key: Contact your faculty member to obtain the SolidWorks Academic license key. This key is required for the installation process.

  2. Download the Software: Visit the SolidWorks website at [www.solidworks.com/SEK] to download the software. Ensure that your system meets the necessary requirements for installation.

  4. Verify Installation: After installation, open SolidWorks to ensure it runs correctly. If you encounter any issues, contact your faculty member for guidance.
