Overview
A temporary VPN solution has been implemented to allow students to access Alldata and Mitchell1 from offsite. Faculty and students need to submit a ticket requesting VPN access for their course, after which they can follow a two-step process involving the installation and use of Cisco AnyConnect software. This workaround tunnels all internet traffic through the college’s network, addressing issues with the normal VPN. While the solution is functional, faculty are encouraged to test the process using an Incognito browser to simulate the student experience. For further details on switching between VPN URLs, read the article below.

Faculty, Students
Instructions
Currently, our existing VPN solution does not grant access to the external websites Alldata and Mitchell1. As a temporary measure, an alternative VPN solution has been implemented
Process
Step 1
1) Faculty - Open a ticket requesting access to the students in a particular coursecode + section (List of students if the list is on the smaller side) - Give us as much time as possible to get these students added. The ticket will be assigned to the appropriate team. Students are unable to request their own access
2) Once VPN access has been provided students/faculty should then navigate to https://vpn.saultcollege.ca/tunnel and login to the webpage with their college username/password.

3) Download the software and install it.

STEP 2
4) Run Cisco AnyConnect software
5) Type the same URL as above: vpn.saultcollege.ca/tunnel, in the provided field
6) Click Connect and login with the college's username/password

NOTE: Once connected, you will now see the Cisco VPN Client icon in the System Tray, with a engaged lock.

7) Access the Alldata URL via AppsAnywhere or directly (if known).

This will be a temporary solution and will eventually be replaced with our permanent and existing solution. It is a copy of the normal vpn, but tunnels all internet traffic through the college.
Faculty Testing
Faculty, using your staff account, can test what the student experience is, or get offsite access themselves.
As an employee on a college computer, for Step1, you 'may' have to use and Incognito/InPrivate browser session when navigating to https://vpn.saultcollege.ca/tunnel URL and seeing if you can access the software? Also, you'll need to remember the VPN URL when going back to our Staff VPN connection which is vpn.saultcollege.ca/mfa
Installing the software on corporate device is not required, so move to Step2.
After the software is installed, Step2 is where everyone using this resource will need to go back to
NOTE: You can use this KB to guide you on returning to the standard VPN college settings, if needed navigate to: Article - How To Login To The College... (teamdynamix.com)
