Installing Crystal Report & Setting up ODBC Connection

This guide will show you how to Install Crystal Report and how to set up the ODCB Connection. If you already have Crystal Report installed and you just need to set up the ODCB Connection, then click here

Step 1: Installing Crystal Report

  1. File Location: \\mvmitdat01p\SCITSoftwareRepository\EndUserApplications\CrystalReports\cr2008_sp3_fullbuild and select the setup.exe file. 


     
  2. Select English


     
  3. Select Next


     
  4. Select, "I accept the License Agreement" then hit Next.


     
  5. Fill in the information below.
    Full Name: Username
    Organization: Sault College
    Product KeyCode: CFK0F-DAS463M-00MFAFF-N43M (License key for 30 users) also provided in \\mvmitdat01p\SCITSoftwareRepository\EndUserApplications\CrystalReports\crlicensekey.txt


     
  6. Select English and click Next.


     
  7. Select Typical and hit Next.


     
  8. Select Next.


     
  9. You will see the install start. (This process can take anywhere from 5/10 minutes). 
    Note: It may take several minutes for the install bar to show any progress.  Don't be alarmed.


     
  10. Click Finish to complete the setup.
    Note: When clicking complete you will get a notification stating, "to restart the system for the configuration changes made to Crystal Reports 2008 to take effect".


Step 2: Setting up ODBC Connection

Note: User must be connected to our Sault College network in order for this to work. 

  1. Go to Control Panel and type ODBC Connections.
  2. Administrative Tools, ODCB Data Sources (32-bt)


     
  3. Make sure User DSN tab is selected and click Add…


     
  4. Select SQL Server for the data source.

     
  5. Enter the information in the empty spaces for Name, Description, Server.
    Name: NowSolutions
    Description: NowSolutions
    Server: MVMDATA01P\SCOPSSQL


    Then Click Next >
     
  6. It will take you to a new screen that says, “Create a New Data Source to SQL Server”. Just select next.


     
  7. Select the checkbox that says, “Change the default database to:” and then select NowSolutions from the dropdown menu. Click Next > once complete.


     
  8. It will take you to a new screen that says, “Create a new Data Source to SQL Server” select Finish.


     
  9. An ODBC Microsoft SQL Server Setup will open. Click OK and you’re done.

  10. Now open Crystal Report from the start bar. Once the program is open, click on File and then click open.

     
  11. Now click in the drop-down menu to find the reports you want to access.
