Managing Robot Studio Licenser server (LICRobotstudio)

Overview

In order to license RobotStudio at Sault College the SLP Licensing Server needs to be up to date with the current version for the version of RobotStudio you are running and the newest license needs to be applied.

Instructions

Preamble

  1. License Server files are distributed with the RobotStudio Installer
  2. License Server CName is licrobotstudio
  3. Users must be on campus to use Robot Studio or have connected to the College VPN service
     

Requesting a new license

In order to request an new license email Sherry M. Humber-Carter <sherry.m.humber-carter@ca.abb.com> asking for a new license for Robot Studio.  This is a free license.  It may take between 24-48 hours to send the new license.

Activate the license for Multi-user licensing (If not upgrade or new install is required - Start HERE)

RDP to LICROBOTSTUDIO

Once the SLP server is online, you can access its web interface at http://licrobotstudio:2468/web. The following table steps show how to use the server's web interface.

The Activation Tab

  • Click Activation
  • Enter the License Activation Key you received from ABB.  If you haven't received a new key yet, review the Licensing database 
  • Click Submit
NOTE: Make sure not to copy and spaces in the key or you will get a failure message

If the key was successfully added you will see the below message.

View the installed Licenses

In the Home tab, under Dashboard, click Details, then Show Licenses
Alternatively, click the Products tab, then click Show Licenses.  The Product details for RobotStudio page opens which shows the installed licenses details.

View the usage of licenses

On the Home tab, under Dashboard, click Usage.  Alternatively, click the Usage tab.

The Current usage of RobotStudio page opens in which the following details are tabulated.

  • Licenses which are currently allocated
  • Client to which each license is allocated to
  • Number of remaining licenses available for use

Each table row corresponds to one client system.

View the License Details

On the Products tab, click Show Licenses
Under the Detail column heading, click More
Click More under the active license

Downloading (and installing) RobotStudio

The first step to getting the Help Files and to know where the the SLP distributor tools (License server software) are.  These can be found by downloading the most recent version of RobotStudio. The easiest way to accomplish this to to go to the Link below.

When you unzip the file the following folders are contained within.

The installation of the license is administered through a tool called SLP distributor.  This is an executable file that is included Robot Studio Install set. The instructions on how the server is setup are in the help file.

To find the Help File:

  1. Install RobotStudio on your PC or access a computer with RobotStudio already installed.
  2. Open RobotStudio
  3. Click File
  4. Click Help
  5. Under Documentation click RobotStudio HelpUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  6. Search for Licensing
  7. Double Click on How to activate RobotStudio?

The RobotStudio License Server is installed on LICROBOTSTUDIO so you also need to get the software on this server.  Choose your favourite method of doing this, below is one method.

  • It's probably best to just use the web browser on the License Server and download it directly 
    OR
  • RDP to VMAHSS01P
  • RDP to LICROBOTSTUDIO
  • Check your webemail for the download link just sent to you.  outlook.office.com
  • Download and unZip the same files

For some reason the Help file is out of date of the actual file path, but see the  screen shot below for your reference in setting up the SLP Distributor Server

  • Navigate to C:\Users\{Username}\Downloads\RobotStudio_2022.2.1\SLP Distributor
  • Run the program SLP distributor for ABB
  •  

Upgrading path

If you are upgrading your version of SLP say Yes

  • Click Next
  • If asked to "Automatically close and attempt to restart ...", click OK

  • Click Finished when done

Full Install Path

Check the top Port option and leave the bottom one unchecked.  It is best to reduce the number of open ports and it will be easier to remember to go to the server to manage licenses, then a random URL on your pc.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

A progress screen will appear, make not if the Port is opened.  If there is an issue reach out to Kevin to review the firewall ports on this server to ensure it is open.

When done, add the key provided by RobotStudio.  If you are moving licensing servers a new key will have to be requested using the same process above.  It is not possible to move keys from and old server to a new server.
