Workstation Device Standards

Introduction  

This document defines the Sault College supported workstation device specifications.  To ensure all Sault College workstation devices are aligned to a standard, the hardware specifications are designed to support business and academic operations.

Stationary Workstation Specifications

The Stationary workstation-device specification supports the Task Operator role and shared workstations.  This device supports basic computing operations, such as: data entry, e-mail, Internet browsing requirements without mobility needs.  The Stationary device will be Micro form factor computer mounted on the back of a monitor.  Stationary devices are utilized in areas such as front-facing customer service counters such as Registrar front counter or Athletics.

Faculty Workstation Specifications

The Faculty workstation-device specification supports Faculty.  This device supports basic computing operations, such as: data entry, e-mail, Internet browsing requirements as well as advanced multitasking, basic multimedia editing.  Mobile capabilities to support bringing laptop to classrooms, departmental meetings, and home.

Productivity Workstation Specifications

The Productivity workstation-device specification supports the Productivity Operator role.  This device supports basic computing operations, such as: data entry, e-mail, Internet browsing requirements as well as advanced multitasking, basic multimedia editing. Multi-display capabilities coupled with a workspace optimized monitor stand to support complex workloads. Mobile capabilities to support remote work.

Performance Workstation Specifications

The Performance workstation-device specification can support the Performance and Specialty Operator roles.  This device supports basic computing operations, such as: data entry, e-mail, internet browsing requirements as well as advanced multitasking, advanced multimedia rendering, GIS processing, 3D rendering, AutoCAD rendering.  Multi-display capabilities coupled with a workspace optimized monitor stand to support complex workloads.

Non-Standard Device Evaluation

In the event the needs of the standard workstation configurations cannot meet specialized requirements IT will work with departments to evaluate technical and financial feasibility and submit proposals to IT managers for approval.

Hybrid Fixed and Hybrid Flexible

Hybrid Fixed and Hybrid Flexible role designations from the Remote Work Policy will be provided a Faculty, Productivity, or Performance workstation on campus. Faculty, Productivity, and Performance workstations are deployed with a laptop which can be taken home for Remote Work. Home office configuration of monitors, keyboards, mice, docking stations are the personal responsibility of each employee to equip as they prefer. IT can offer guidance to answer compatibility questions, however IT Support staff will not support or service non-college equipment.
