LMS - Logging In to D2L with an External Account

Summary

Instructions for external users to log in to D2L using the local login page, manage their password, and troubleshoot common access issues.

Body

Overview

External D2L accounts are created directly in the Sault College D2L environment and are not connected to a Sault College Microsoft account.  Because of this, external users must use the D2L local login page rather than the standard Sault College D2L login page.

D2L Login Page

Use the following link to sign in:

https://welearn.saultcollege.ca/d2l/local

Do not use the standard D2L address:

https://welearn.saultcollege.ca

The standard address uses Microsoft Single Sign-On and is intended for users with an active Sault College Microsoft account.

How to Log In

  • Open a web browser.
  • Go to: https://welearn.saultcollege.ca/d2l/local
  • Enter the D2L username provided to you.  Is should be in the follow format:
    • first initial + last name + _ext
    • Example: jsmith_ext
  • Enter your D2L password.
  • Select Log In.

After signing in, you should see the D2L courses or resources to which you have been granted access.

First-Time Login

When logging in for the first time:

  • Enter the username and the password provided to you.
  • Store your new password securely.

Your D2L username and password are separate from any personal, workplace, or Microsoft account credentials.

Changing Your Password

Your D2L password is managed separately from any personal, workplace, or Microsoft account password.

If you would like to change your D2L password, contact your Sault College representative and ask for a D2L password-reset link to be sent to you.

Once received, open the link and follow the instructions to create a new password. The reset link may expire, so it should be used promptly.

Troubleshooting

Your username or password is not accepted

Check that:

  • You are using the D2L username provided to you.
  • You are not entering your personal or workplace Microsoft password.
  • Caps Lock is turned off.
  • There are no extra spaces before or after your username or password.
